Position Title: Professional Nurse – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled and qualified Professional Nurse specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care to join our dedicated NICU team. This role is tailored for a nurse with extensive experience in caring for critically ill neonates, ensuring the highest level of care and support for both newborns and their families. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a NICU setting within a private hospital and a passion for excellence in neonatal care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
    • Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill neonates, including those requiring ventilation, specialized feeding, and close monitoring.
    • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
    • Monitor vital signs, identify changes in condition, and respond promptly to emergencies.
    • Deliver individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs of each neonate.
Family Support:
    • Educate and support families regarding their newborn’s condition, care plan, and progress.
    • Provide emotional support to parents during challenging times and foster a family-centered care approach.
    • Facilitate parent involvement in the care and bonding process.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
    • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care.
    • Participate in regular team meetings and case reviews to enhance care strategies.
Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
    • Ensure proper inventory management of NICU supplies and equipment.
    • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and audits to uphold high standards of care.
Professional Development:
    • Stay updated on advancements in neonatal care through ongoing training and professional development.
    • Mentor and support junior nursing staff and students within the NICU.
 
Qualifications and Experience:
    • Nursing Qualification: Diploma or Degree in General Nursing.
    • Postgraduate Specialization: Post-basic qualification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing.
    • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a NICU environment, preferably within a private hospital setting.
    • Professional Registration: Active registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
    • Certification: BLS (Basic Life Support) is mandatory; NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification is highly advantageous.
